The museum currently focuses on the gradual development of the new extensive permanent exhibition (depending on the financial means) the contents of which and the scenarios of the individual parts arise from the main characteristic of the collection funds and the scope of work and research of the museum. The museum professionals administer more than 170.000 collection items. The most extensive fund is archaeology, amounting to nearly 120.000 collection items. The numismatic fund is also one of the largest and most remarkable ones (it includes coins, medals, saint medals, bank notes, etc. It amounts to approximately 19.000 items. The artistic fund, amounting to 9.000 collection items, comprises paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures. Ores, minerals, rocks and the paleontological collections amount to nearly 7.000 collection items. The extensive Arts and Crafts fund is equally numerous and its origin, as well as the origin of the Archaeological fund, can be traced to the late 19th century. Naturally, this fund includes even such objects whose description must not be absent in any history of civilization. The exhibited items from the Mining Technology fund are among the oldest in Europe.

The museum may only exhibit a fraction of its wealth of collection in the permanent exhibitions. Therefore, the museum collections are also presented through various thematically focused seasonal exhibitions. Besides their permanent exhibition halls, all museum buildings have also the showroom. On average, the museum holds 6 to 8 exhibitions every year. It also opens its premises to artists from various fields. All the year round, the museum serves as a research, advisory, library and consultancy center for the public. Virtually unceasingly, the museum also functions as an unofficial information center for both domestic and foreign tourists.

Each year, the museum employees provide research services and information about the museum collections to more than 100 interested persons. However, this is not the complete list of the museum´s activities. The representative premises of the gothic Little Castle (the main museum building), which has also become a frequent destination for prominent Kutná Hora´s diplomatic and official guests, are a place where concerts, lectures, social events, banquets and celebrations take place.

The Czech Museum of Silver is a member of the civil society organization that organizes cultural events, striving for the revival of the town´s historical traditions. The most remarkable event is the Royal Silvering of Kutná Hora, an annual Luxembourg-period festival that takes place during the penultimate weekend in June. Autumn is the time of the „Smíšek´s Autumn Festival“, a stylish private invite only event with a contemporary Renaissance program, reminiscent of the style of life in Kutná Hora during the Jagiellonian period (generally for the supporters and sponsors of the museum and the civic society organization). „Advent or Barborky at the Little Castle“ - a Christmas fair with historical festivities and a thematic exhibition – is held in Decemeber.
